Surprise twist emerges in Leeds pursuit of £15M attacker as club disagree with player’s camp

Wales Online claim Joel Piroe is now surprisingly set to remain at Swansea City this summer despite links with Leeds United, Southampton, Leicester and Atalanta – and even, with his contract at Swansea due to expire next summer.

Piroe joined Swansea in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven, starring for the Welsh side since. In 92 games for Swansea since his arrival, the 23-year-old has scored 44 goals. No surprise a number of sides are after the striker.

But, Wales Online detail an update. They state that Leeds, Atalanta, Leicester and Southampton all want him – with Swansea rating Piroe at £15m. But, Swansea are unwilling to structure a transfer that is to the liking of Piroe’s camp.

The stubbornness of the Swansea board means it is now likely Piroe misses out on a move, the interested clubs like Leeds do not get their man – and Swansea lose one of their most-valuable assets for nothing in the next 12 months.

Piroe has ‘no intention’ of signing an extension, or extending his deal beyond June 2024. So, Swansea’s £15m price tag and their desire to structure a deal in a certain way looks set to scupper a move. They could still accept a bid.

Joel Piroe surprise: Striker set to remain at Swansea despite Leeds links

Piroe would be a superb signing – especially with Patrick Bamford suffering a hamstring injury and Georginio Rutter a core problem, in the win over Hearts. It might mean we are down to Mateo Joseph or Joe Gelhardt for our opener.

Bringing Piroe in would allow Rutter to play out wide, which is what Daniel Farke planned – and probably, give Leeds more room in cashing in on the likes of Willy Gnonto and Jack Harrison. But it seems that a move has hit a standstill.
