Richarlison shows anger after substitution as Ange set for strict rules

Tottenham news: Richarlison had a noticeable reaction to being subbed off in Spurs’ Premier League clash with Manchester United

Richarlison endured a frustrating 70 minutes in Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, despite his tireless work rate and endeavour. With both teams in search of an opener, Man United dominated the early stages of the clash with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes both going close before the tables turned.

Just before the half-time whistle, Spurs hit the woodwork twice through Pedro Porro and a deflected Pape Sarr cross. With the ball bouncing freely in the box twice, Richarlison was inches away from putting away the rebound on both occasions.

Those were his two most notable contributions in the first period with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez rarely troubled by the Brazil international. The second half saw him become more involved however, with his hold up play helping the north Londoners build a platform to attack.

A scuffed shot from Destiny Udogie also saw Richarlison so close to firing in a rebound. His final action saw him once again on the verge of getting a shot at goal as he flew towards Dejan Kulusevski’s cross but the ball floated just over his head.

With Sarr putting Spurs in front early on in the second 45 minutes, Ange Postecoglou chose to bring on some extra defensive bodies which involved Richarlison going off. However, he was far from impressed as he shrugged past the outstretched hands of incoming players Ben Davies and Ivan Perisic.

Postecoglou then saw his hand reluctantly shook by Richarlison before he gesticulated to Emerson Royal regarding his annoyance at the game. While some would question his attitude for being replaced, it shows clearly the desire Richarlison has to do well and get on the score sheet with his only Premier League goal coming in the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool especially now Harry Kane has departed.

Perisic, the man who replaced Richarlison, was then involved in a marquee moment as his pass was diverted towards goal by Davies before Lisandro Martinez inadvertently scuffed the ball into his own net.
