Leeds now want £10m bargain that Victor Orta said he tried to sign, but for a ‘difference in valuation’

Leeds United are reportedly showing interest in Nottingham Forest man Lewis O’Brien again after being linked with him in the past – and back in 2021, Victor Orta shared how close Leeds came to his signing.

O’Brien, 24, is back at Forest after a difficult 12 months. Starring for Huddersfield and almost taking his side to promotion, Forest beat O’Brien’s Huddersfield in the play-offs. He then made the move to Forest.

Starring in the first half of 2022-23 for Forest, O’Brien was removed from the 25-man squad in January. Forest had brought in too many players, O’Brien fell victim. He was shipped out on loan to DC United.

Starring under Wayne Rooney and alongside Mateusz Klich, he is now back at Forest but a report from Alan Nixon on his Patreon channel says Leeds are keen on a deal. A loan, or a £10m permanent move.

Of course, O’Brien has been linked before and back in the summer of 2021, Orta told the YEP just how close Leeds had come to signing him – stating it was only a small matter of valuation in negotiations.

“A difference in valuations. I respect these things, they happen. You have one idea, the club owning the player has another idea. If it matches, perfect, if not they have to continue and you have to continue.”

Now, we can finally put right our inability to sign him – and perhaps at this stage, the timing is better. A move to Leeds in the Premier League in 2021 might have seen O’Brien struggle for game time, and form.

But now a bit older at 24, a bit wiser, more experience and joining a Leeds side in the Championship, he has the chance to make himself a Leeds hero alongside Ethan Ampadu. To really kickstart his career.

He would be a wonderful signing, even at £10m. A bargain of sorts, in that he is still very young but also experienced at this level. An absolute no-brainer if all parties involved are willing to do a deal for him.
