I doubt it’: Sean Dyche now says £1.5M Everton player unlikely to face Fulham on Saturday

Everton manager Sean Dyche has now said that forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to face Fulham in Saturday’s Premier League opener.

The Blues welcome the Cottagers to Goodison Park for Saturday’s 3pm kick-off, but when Sean Dyche was asked if the 26-year-old will be available, he responded: “I doubt it.

Dyche was speaking after the Toffees overcame Sporting CP in a 1-0 win in the final pre-season friendly of the summer, with Calvert-Lewin bagging the winner from the penalty spot.

As reported via the Liverpool Echo, when asked whether the England international will be fit to face Fulham, Dyche responded:

“I doubt it because the games programme hasn’t been achieved yet; he has played two 45-minute games, so therefore we have to keep building him up because we cannot go down the cycle of events from the last two years; we have to break it.

We tried to break it last season; we nearly got there, but it didn’t quite work. Now we have to be cautious to make sure that he is well, which he is.

Dyche continued: “All problems can be remedied in the human body; it is just some bodies take longer than others.”

Everton fans sadly becoming accustomed to the unavailability of Calvert-Lewin

DCL has played just 90 minutes of pre-season football this summer, with 45 minutes in last Tuesday’s behind closed doors match with AC Monza, followed by another 45 in Saturday’s win over Sporting CP.

Indeed, the forward has played just 36 games in all competitions over the past two seasons, during which time Everton have struggled in front of goal, exemplifying his importance to the team.
