Fans happy after huge battle as Nottingham Forest confirm transfer after contract decision agreed

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as young Reds midfielder Oli Hammond is set for a loan move to League One side Cheltenham Town.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Oli Hammond has joined Cheltenham Town on loan.

The 20-year-old moves to the League One club for his first taste of regular senior football. He will therefore be in contention to make his EFL debut when they host Shrewsbury Town in their season opener on Saturday (August 5).

Hammond signed a new one-year contract at Forest earlier this summer, with the club holding an option to then extend his stay by a further year. The midfielder, who represents Wales at under-21 level, has made three senior appearances for Forest – all of them in the EFL Cup. Two of them came last season, after his debut against Wolves the campaign before that.

The 2022/23 campaign was most notable for the key role he played for Forest under-21s, however. Hammond, who joined the Nigel Doughty Academy aged eight, scored six goals and weighed in with five assists as the team reached the Premier League 2 Division 2 play-offs, wearing the captain’s armband in the final.

Hammond will become a teammate of former Derby County and Leicester City defender Curtis Davies, who joined the Robins earlier this summer. They finished 16th in the third tier last season, and are managed by former Bournemouth and Burnley midfielder Wade Elliott.
