Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns as Everton vs Monza scorers and starters revealed

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was involved as Everton drew 2-2 with Italian side Monza in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The striker took the next step in his fitness programme during the game at Goodison Park, featuring in a match line-up for the first time during the summer. Lewis Dobbin and Neal Maupay got the goals for the home side.

Calvert-Lewin’s appearance followed months of hard work since he was ruled out of the final game of last season with a hamstring injury. That journey has taken him from a specialist clinic in Munich to the pre-season camp on the banks of Lake Geneva to first team training at Finch Farm.

Vitalii Mykolenko, who also missed the end of last season through injury and did not travel to France this summer due to his recovery schedule, also played for Everton.

Calvert-Lewin and Mykolenko each played 45 minutes while Arnaut Danjuma played 75 minutes.

The deadlock was broken seven minutes into the second half when Andrea Colpani gave the away side the lead. Dobbin, who has earned Sean Dyche’s praise through his pre-season work this summer, equalised before second half substitute Maupay put Everton ahead. A late Dany Mota header secured the draw for Monza.

James Garner, Jarrad Branthwaite, Ben Godfrey, Amadou Onana, Tyler Onyango, Dobbin and Joao Virginia all played the full game. Liam Higgins, Reece Welch and Katia Kouyate all featured too, along with Mackenzie Hunt.
