£5m Leeds United man reveals former Norwich City star convinced him of Elland Road move

Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara has revealed that former Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki helped convince him to join Daniel Farke’s side this summer.

The Whites were busy in the final days of the transfer window, strengthening their midfield after a patient wait in the transfer market.

Ilia Gruev joined the club from Werder Bremen, to then be followed in the doors by Glen Kamara, who moved from Rangers to West Yorkshire.

Glen Kamara joins Leeds

£5million deal was struck to see Leeds bring in the Finland international just 24 hours before the deadline shut, and Kamara arrived in time to make his debut at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday.

There wasn’t much time for the 27-year-old to make his mark on the game as he replaced Archie Gray, but he will be hoping that he can get up to speed after the international break.

Who recommended this move to Kamara?

Daniel Farke might be frustrated about not being able to work closely with Kamara and others over the international break, but match fitness is required for Kamara to get up to top speed for the resumption of league action next week.

While he’s away, he’ll be catching up with fellow Finn Teemu Pukki, who Kamara has now revealed played a major part in convincing him of moving to Farke’s Whites, obviously with Pukki having enjoyed his best football under the German at Norwich City.

When speaking about the topic, he stated (via Helsingin Sanomat):

“To be honest, a move like that is not as complicated as people sometimes think. Of course it can be that sometimes.

“When this came to my attention, I was very interested in it. It’s a huge club with a great history, good coaches and good players. I know the fan base is passionate. Everything was right in this option.”

“He [Daniel Farke] said he saw me play. I would guess that he has also seen me play in Finland’s shirt, but also in Rangers. I spoke with Teemu [Pukki] and he had nothing but good things to say about the coach. It made my decision easier.”

Where will Leeds finish in 23/24?

Bottom half

Anyone who played under Farke at Norwich probably has brilliant things to say about him, given how well he did with a limited budget there.

Kamara is another player who will be looking at his coaching and thinking this is the best way for him to revitalise his career in his peak years.

Pukki, of all people, would always be looking to heap praise on the sort of person and coach Farke is, given how he turned him into a lethal striker.
